Connie Mark Celebrated With Google Doodle- TheVoice
This story discusses how Google celebrated what would have been Connie Mark's 95th birthday with a Google Doodle (pictured above).
Connie Mark, born Constance Winifred McDonald, was part of the British war effort, signing up as a member of the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War Two. She worked as a medical secretary during the war from the age of 19. She was responsible for typing up medical reports on those injured in battle. She went on to be promoted to lance corporal and later full corporal. She did not receive a pay rise for either promotion. Despite this, she carried on working in the military even after the war ended.
This story is an example of soft news. It is The Voice's way of spreading awareness of amazing things back people have done in the past and celebrating this. The fact that she didn't receive a pay rise highlights the inequality at the time. Perhaps audiences can relate to Connie or have parents or grandparents who can relate to her.
