New research has shown the children who spend even half an hour online are more likely to ask their parents for junk food. The study was conducted at the University of Liverpool and the findings showed that children who spent three or more hours on the internet were three times more likely to ask their parents for junk food and four times more likely to spend their pocket money on junk food. The study also found that children spent 16 hours a week on the internet and 22 hours watching TV. These children were 79% more likely to be overweight/obese. Children who spent longer than 30 minutes a day on the computer were 53% more likely to be carrying excess weight than those who spent less time on the computer. Recent studies have also shown that obesity among children aged 10-11 has increased by more than a third since 2006.
