Desperate couple are reduced to tears after benefits blunder left them with just 74p to live on for a WEEK and meant they could barely afford to feed their five-year-old daughter- MailOnline
Parents of five-year-old daughter Cheyenne, Melissa and Chris, were signed off work due to health and mental illness reasons. They were expecting £330 of universal credit benefits but never received the payment. They were left with just 74p in their account and have only managed to get by with food donations from neighbors and strangers who heard about their situation. When Melissa called the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) hotline for help, she claimed that claimed the officer said the payment was not due for another six days and also alleged that she was told it was 'her problem'.
This is a very interesting story from MailOnline. This is because the Daily Mail newspaper is known for its criticism and negativity to people on benefits. However, here they provide a sympathetic approach. This is an example of soft news but is leaning towards hard news because of the fact that this could happen to anyone and people could be left in a life or death situation.
