Textual analysis
1) What type of text is it?
This is a magazine cover.
2) How do you know? What are the key conventions that allowed you to identify the text?
The key conventions of a magazine allowed me to identify the type of text this is. There is a central image (in this case Sabrina Carpenter), the title of publication placed right at the top (Seventeen), the main flash ('Glam it up') and other cover lines and name checks.
3) In your opinion, who is the target audience for this media text?
I think the target audience for this magazine is young teenage girls aged 15-18. This is because of the blue colour scheme that depict the young and fun feel the magazine is trying to portray. Furthermore, the magazine features topics that young girls would be interested in- like makeup, etc.
4) How would this audience access the text? E.g. where/when would they consume it? Using what device?
The audience could either read a hard copy of this magazine or access it online using their phones. They would probably do this in their free time.
5) What values, ideologies and beliefs in society are reinforced or challenged in this media text?
The fact that young girls are interested in makeup, hair and fashion are reinforced in this magazine. However, while some may view this as a bad thing, this magazine has taken it with pride and tried to encourage these ideologies.
